TELE_PRINTING
SPRING 2018 / REPRESENTATION/ JEFF HALSTEAD

This project’s pursuit was to attempt to distance the work from the legibility of digital processes.  The process entailed employing a series of translation tactics: Interpretive object (inspired by Eisenman’s House VI), 3D Projection (“model of a model”), Rendering (lighting), and Drawing (translation of raster information to vector linework).
The patterns utilized in the final translation of the process were a series of 8-bit SpongeBob characters.  The swatches were carefully scaled and applied as a means of re-introducing “light/shadow” qualities from the original renderings to give the image dimension. The use of abstract, yet still highly-recognizable characters, strives to further challenge the reading of the image; from a distance, the patterns and characters are illegible; however, upon zooming, the patterns reveal themselves, adding a layer of complexity to the image.
